Dr Robin Kelly is a GP and a UK Column member. Born, raised and trained as a medical doctor in the United Kingdom, Robin and his wife Trish, a trained nurse, immigrated to New Zealand in 1977. Medicine is not all that Robin is qualified in; he is a doctor with many talents. Robin studied Chinese Medicine for 10 years. He is also a past and current co-president of the Medical Acupuncture Society (NZ) and a founding trustee of New Zealand’s MindBody Trust.
Robin and Trish introduced Energy Psychology techniques alongside medical acupuncture to his practice. He regards this as one vital step in helping people regain full ownership of their healing. He presented a TEDx talk on ‘The Human Hologram’ in 2009. Blending Eastern medicine with more traditional Western medicine, he offers a choice. Robin has also released music albums and written books.
Concerned that patients were not receiving enough time with their family doctor to discuss problems, and worried that they were not being listened to or offered alternative therapies, Robin and Trish commissioned purpose-built medical rooms to be built onto their home. In Robin and Trish’s practice, patients become guests, enjoy a cup of tea and chats with other patients in the knowledge that they are in safe hands, where time and Artificial Intelligence are of no importance.
Have patients become a nuisance for over-stressed family doctors; a fly in their ointment? Are patients demanding too much when they want to be heard? Do they only get five-minute consultations, or ten if they are lucky? This is not so at Robin’s practice. He and Trish believe patients need at least 30 minutes for a consultation. No one minds if someone needs a little more; everyone understands. Healing plans honour each patient’s unique gifts. He believes consciousness and quantum theory play a big part in the deep healing of mind, body and spirit. What is ‘the presence’, and why has medicine forgotten this vital quality in medical professionals?
Robin is quite literally a doctor in his own house, flinging his doors open to guests who are seeking advice, support and help.
What really does help the medicine go down? Laughter? Tears? A song? Whatever it takes, Robin and Trish will welcome you.
