Joseph B. Sweeney graduated from the United States Military Academy in 1987, and then served for six years as an Airborne Ranger-qualified Infantry Officer. After his military service, he attended Vermont Law School, and upon graduation was accepted into the CIA National Security Law Honors Program. For the next 25 years, he worked in the CIA Office of General Counsel, attaining the rank of Senior Intelligence Service-4. He served as the legal advisor to six different components within the CIA’s Directorate for Operations. He spent more than a decade in the CIA's Litigation Division as Line Attorney, Deputy, Acting Chief, and Chief.
His extensive service has given him a unique perspective on national security and the practice of national security law. His deep understanding of criminal cases involving classified information, combined with decades of experience waging bureaucracy, provide him with an authoritative voice to guide readers and audiences through the byzantine world of espionage investigations and prosecutions.
His book A Dangerous Injustice focuses on the raid of former President Trump's home and the subsequent indictment filed against him. A Dangerous Injustice documents how unchecked political rage caused the Democratic Party to abandon the American values of fairness and justice and to embrace hatred and tyranny.
A Dangerous Injustice is a rigorously researched insider's view into the stark disparities in the Department of Justice’s handling of President Biden's and former President Trump's classified documents cases. Comparing those cases to each other and to the closest historical precedents while explaining the relevant laws in easy-to-understand language, Sweeney reveals precisely how the Biden administration weaponised the American justice system to protect President Joe Biden and persecute former President Donald Trump. His overall analysis covers the nature and handling of classified material, historical security failures and espionage cases, the David Petraeus affair, Hillary Clinton’s emails, the protection of Biden, and what he describes as ‘crossing the Rubicon’: the Biden administration’s forced entry into the home of former President Trump.
Ultimately, A Dangerous Injustice makes a strong case for reforming federal law enforcement and restraining the party passions that led to its corruption. It offers practical solutions to prevent future weaponising of the justice system, reunite a fractured electorate, and move the country toward a less turbulent future.
